SEO for Salons and Spas: Turning Local Searches Into Booked Appointments
By Mohamed Eltoukhy, founder of EVOGENCY ·
Salons and spas live on repeat, local customers, and most new clients find them through a specific search like "balayage near me" rather than a generic term.
That's good news, because specific searches are easier to win. A salon that shows real work for the services people search, and makes booking effortless, can grow steadily without spending heavily on ads.
Service pages, not a price list
Each major service, like color, extensions, or a specific spa treatment, deserves its own page with real photos, not just a line item on a price list. That's what actually shows up for the specific searches people make.
Explain what the service involves, how long it takes, how to prepare, aftercare, and a price range or starting price. Include photos of your own work. Stock photos of models don't tell a client what your team can do.
Make booking effortless
If online booking exists, it needs to be one click from the homepage, not buried three pages deep. A lot of salons lose the exact customers their SEO earned because booking was harder than it needed to be.
Link your booking system from the Google Business Profile as well, so people can book without ever visiting the site. Fewer steps means more appointments.
Photos are your portfolio
Clients choose salons and stylists based on work they can see. Post new photos to your Google Business Profile regularly, and keep a gallery on your site organized by service. Before and after shots are especially persuasive.
Compress images so they load quickly on phones. A slow gallery is a gallery nobody scrolls.
Introduce the team
People often book a person, not a business. Short bios for each stylist or therapist, with their specialties and a photo, help new clients choose and help your team build their own following.
If a stylist specializes in curly hair, blonding, or extensions, say so. Those specialties are searched directly.
Reviews keep the chair full
Ask happy clients for a review at checkout while they love their new look. A quick text with a direct link works well. Reviews that mention a specific service or stylist are especially helpful to future clients.
Reply to every review, and handle unhappy clients privately and graciously.
Start here
Build a page for each of your top services, make booking one tap away, post fresh photos weekly, and ask for reviews every day. That's the core of salon SEO.
